Valve Lifter Installation - Right Side
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Cadillac DTS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Tools Required
J 39946 Crankshaft Socket - 4. See Special Tools .0L and 4.6L
- Ensure the crankshaft is in the TDC position for the number one cylinder using the J 39946 . See Special Tools .
- Fill the stationary hydraulic lash adjuster (SHLA) with clean engine oil GM P/N 12345616 (Canadian P/N 993182) or equivalent. Take precautions to prevent scratching the pivot sphere area (1) of the SHLA.
- Lubricate the SHLA bores of the cylinder head with clean engine oil GM P/N 12345616 (Canadian P/N 993182) or equivalent.
- Install the SHLAs.
- Apply a liberal amount of lubricant GM P/N 12345001 (Canadian P/N 992704) or equivalent to the SHLA sphere.
NOTE:
Ensure each valve lifter is filled with clean engine oil and the valve lifter does not tip over (plunger down) before the installation of the valve lifters. The loss of oil in the valve lifter lower pressure chamber or the dry stroking/cycling of the valve lifter plunger will allow air to travel into the high pressure chamber of the valve lifter. Air in the high pressure chamber of the valve lifter may not be purged causing extensive engine component damage.
