Starter Removal

Fig 1: Identifying Crankshaft Position Sensor & Wiring Harness

Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor wiring harness (1) from the camshaft position (CMP) sensor.
Remove the jumping ground bracket bolt (2) from the right cylinder head.

Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor wiring harness (1) from the knock (KS) sensors.
Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor wiring harness (2) from the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.

Remove the crankshaft position sensor wiring harness from the engine valley.

Remove the KS sensors.

Remove the CKP sensor bolt.
Remove the CKP sensor.

Remove and discard the CKP sensor O-ring.

Remove the camshaft position CMP sensor bolt.
Remove the CMP sensor.

Remove and discard the CMP sensor O-ring.

Remove the 2 starter motor bolts.

Using two hands, remove the starter motor and the wiring harness by sliding the motor toward the front of the engine. The wiring harness can remain attached unless replacing the starter.
