Tire Pressure Monitor Description

The tire pressure monitoring system alerts the driver when there is a large change in the air pressure of one tire. The system learns the air pressure at each tire throughout the operating speed range of the vehicle, and compares tire rotational speeds using the antilock brake system's wheel speed sensors. The tire pressure monitoring system will not alert the driver before driving the vehicle that a tire is low or flat. The driver must begin driving the vehicle before the system will work properly.

The CHECK TIRE PRESSURE warning message, on the driver information center (DIC), and the tire pressure warning light, on the instrument panel cluster, will illuminate f the system detects a pressure difference in one of the four tires installed on the vehicle. The tire pressure monitoring system may not warn the driver of a tire pressure condition if :

More than one tire is low.
The vehicle is moving faster than 65 mph (105 km/h).
The system is not yet calibrated.
The tire treadwear is uneven.
The compact spare tire is installed.
Tire chains are being used.
The vehicle is being driven on a rough or frozen road.

If the tire pressure warning light illuminates and the CHECK TIRE PRESSURE message is displayed on the DIC, measure the air pressure in all four tires and adjust or repair if necessary. The tire pressure monitoring system does not set any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
