Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the right drive axle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (FE1, FE3) or Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (FE7) .

    IMPORTANT: Be careful not to damage the transmission case extension when removing the seal with a screwdriver.
  3. Remove the drive axle seal (1) in the following order:
    1. Use a screwdriver to pry out the seal from the transmission.
    2. Use pliers in order to remove the remaining housing of drive axle seal from the transmission.
  4. Inspect the drive axle seal mating surface on the drive axle housing for corrosion, grooves or nicks.
  5. Clean the drive axle seal mating surface on the drive axle housing with crocus cloth.
