Assembly End Play Measurement

Tools Required

J 39686 Input End Play Check Tool. See Special Tools .
J 8001 Dial Indicator Set

Install the J 39686 into the case barrel and install the post. See Special Tools .

Locate the J tab on the input shaft (604). The arrow on the tab should have a 90 degree orientation.
The washer must rest flat on the case cover seal. Rotate the threaded shaft clockwise until tight. Leave enough space for the collar.
Insert the collar. Install the J 8001 .

Push down on the handle and check the end play.
Specification: The end play specification is 0.10-0.85 mm (0.004-0.033 in).

If the measurement is out of the specification range, determine the appropriate selective thrust washer (522) for installation upon reassemble.
Remove the dial indicator and the post.
