Circuit/System Description
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Cadillac DTS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
When the external rear compartment lid release switch is activated, the trunk ajar switch signal circuit is switched to ground. When this input is received by body control module (BCM), the BCM applies voltage to the coil side of the TRUNK RELEASE relay via the trunk release relay control circuit. The coil side of the trunk release relay is permanently grounded at G301. With the trunk release relay coil energized, the switch contacts close and provide battery voltage to the rear compartment lid latch assembly. This causes the rear compartment lid to release.
