Calipers & Wheel Cylinders
- Set parking brake completely, then start engine and allow it to idle. Clean master cylinder cap and surrounding area, and then remove cap. Fill master cylinder, keeping fluid level at least half full during bleeding procedure. If fluid level is replenished during procedure, leave the system for 1 minute.
- Install clear vinyl bleed hose onto first wheel cylinder or caliper bleed screw to be serviced. See BRAKELINE BLEEDING SEQUENCE table. Place other end of hose in clean transparent container.
- Partially fill container with clean brake fluid so end of hose is submerged in fluid. Slowly pump brake pedal 3 times and hold depressed. Loosen bleed screw until fluid flows through hose. If no brake fluid comes out, it suggests that air is mixed in the master cylinder. Bleed master cylinder. See MASTER CYLINDER .
- Close bleed screw, and then release pedal. Pump pedal slowly several times to push air toward wheel cylinders or calipers. Repeat procedure until flow of brake fluid is clear and bubble free. Repeat procedure for each wheel.
- Depress the pedal to check if you feel sponginess after the air has been removed from all wheel cylinders and calipers. If the pedal feels spongy, the entire bleeding procedure (master cylinder, calipers and wheel cylinders) must be repeated. After the bleeding operation is completed on the each individual wheel, check the level of the brake fluid in the reservoir and replenish up to the "MAX" level as necessary.
