Diagnostic Procedure

  1. If SIR diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If SIR diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to SRS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  2. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located under left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Read driver SENSE LO on scan tool display. If driver SENSE LO is less than 1.5 volts, go to next step. If driver SENSE LO is 1.5 volts or more, go to SDM INTEGRITY CHECK .
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect SRS coil Yellow 2-pin connector, located at base of steering column. Connect SRS Driver/Passenger Load Tool (J-41433) and appropriate adapter to SRS coil harness connector. Turn ignition on. If DTC 24 is current, go to next step. If DTC 24 is not current, go to step  6.
    NOTE: Use Digital Multimeter (J-39200) and Terminal Adapter Kit (J-35616-A) when performing electrical tests.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect SDM. Disconnect SRS driver/passenger load tool. Measure resistance between SDM harness connector terminal No. 3 (Yellow wire) and terminal No. 6 (Black wire). See Figure. If resistance is infinite, go to next step. If resistance is less than infinite, replace SRS harness. Go to step  7.
  5. Measure resistance between SDM harness connector terminal No. 4 (Yellow/Black wire) and terminal No. 6 (Black wire). See Figure. If resistance is infinite, go to SDM INTEGRITY CHECK . If resistance is less than infinite, replace SRS harness. Go to step  7.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect SRS driver/passenger load tool from SRS coil assembly harness connector. Remove driver-side air bag module. See AIR BAG ASSEMBLIES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS driver/passenger load tool to Yellow 2-pin connector. Reconnect SRS coil assembly harness connector at base of steering column. Turn ignition on. If DTC 24 is current, replace SRS coil assembly. See SRS COIL ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step. If DTC 24 is not current, replace driver-side air bag. See AIR BAG ASSEMBLIES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
  7. Reconnect all SRS components. Ensure all components are properly mounted. Using scan tool, clear DTC's. Go to SRS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
