Diagnostic Procedure

  1. If SIR diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If SIR diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to SRS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  2. Using scan tool, request DATA LIST function. If passenger differential voltage is greater than 4 volts, go to next step. If passenger differential voltage is 4 volts or less, go to SDM INTEGRITY CHECK .
  3. Turn ignition off. Ensure passenger-side air bag Yellow 2-pin connector, located behind glove box is seated properly. If okay, go to next step. If not seated properly, correct and go to step  7.
  4. Disconnect and inspect passenger-side air bag Yellow 2-pin connector, located behind glove box. If connector is okay, reconnect and turn ignition on. If DTC 17 is current, go to next step. If DTC 17 is not current, turn ignition off and go to step  7.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect driver-side and passenger-side air bag Yellow 2-pin connectors located at base of steering column and behind glove box assembly. Connect SRS Driver/Passenger Load Tool (J-41433) and appropriate adapters to driver-side and passenger-side air bag assembly harness connectors. Turn ignition on. If DTC 17 is current, go to next step. If DTC 17 is not current, replace passenger-side air bag. See AIR BAG ASSEMBLIES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step  7.
    NOTE: Use Digital Multimeter (J-39200) and Terminal Adapter Kit (J-35616-A) when performing electrical tests.
  6. Turn ignition off. Using digital multimeter in high resolution mode, check for increased resistance in passenger inflator deployment loop circuits IB07 (Yellow/Green wire) and IB08 (Yellow/Red wire), SDM connector terminals No. 15 (Yellow/Green wire) and 16 (Yellow/Red wire). See Figure. If a fault is found, replace SRS harness and go to next step. If fault is not found, go to SDM INTEGRITY CHECK .
  7. Reconnect all SRS components. Ensure all components are properly mounted. Using scan tool, clear DTC's. Go to SRS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
