Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Turn ignition off. Remove and inspect METER fuse C-11 (10-amp), located in fuse block on left side of instrument panel. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, go to step  7.
    NOTE: Use Digital Multimeter (J-39200) and Terminal Adapter Kit (J-35616-A) when performing electrical tests.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect driver-side and passenger-side air bag connectors, located at base of steering column and behind glove box assembly. Disconnect SDM. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between SDM harness connector terminals No. 7 (Green wire) and 6 (Black wire). See Figure. If system voltage exists at terminal No. 7 (Green wire), go to step  4. If system voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). Check for proper connection at IPC (AIR BAG warning light) connector, terminal No. 11, circuit No. IB04 (Green wire). If connection is okay, remove and inspect AIR BAG warning light bulb. If bulb is okay, go to step  5. If bulb is bad, replace bulb and go to step  6.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect IPC connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between SDM harness connector terminals No. 7 (Green wire) and 6 (Black wire). See Figure. If voltage is one volt or less, go to SDM INTEGRITY CHECK . If voltage is greater than one volt, replace SRS harness and go to step  6.
  5. Install AIR BAG warning light bulb. Measure resistance of Green wire between IPC connector terminal No. 11 and SDM harness connector terminal No. 7. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, service IPC and go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace SRS harness and go to next step.
  6. Reconnect all SRS components. Ensure all components are properly mounted. Go to SRS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  7. Replace METER fuse. Turn ignition on for 10 seconds, then turn off. Remove and inspect meter fuse. If fuse is okay, reinstall and go to step  9. If fuse is blown, go to next step.
  8. Disconnect driver-side and passenger-side air bag connectors. Disconnect SDM. Replace C-11 METER fuse. Turn ignition on for 10 seconds, then turn off. Remove and inspect METER fuse. If fuse is okay, reinstall fuse and go to SDM INTEGRITY CHECK . If fuse is blown, replace SRS harness and METER fuse. Go to next step.
  9. Reconnect all SRS components. Ensure all components are properly mounted. Go to SRS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
