Rear Drum Brake Shoes: Removal
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels. Mark the position of the drum to axle and ensure the parking brake is released. Remove brake drums. See Fig 1. If drums are difficult to get off, use a rubber mallet to tap gently on the outer trim of the drum and/or around the inner drum. Be careful to avoid damaging the drum.
- Remove the upper (other) return spring and auto adjuster lever. Remove the lower return spring. Remove hold-down springs with cups (4) and pin (15). Remove adjuster assembly.
- Remove the leading shoe assembly with upper (inner) return spring. Remove the upper (inner) return spring. Remove the hold-down spring with cup (3) and pin (16).
- Remove the trailing shoe assembly with parking brake lever. Remove the parking brake cable from parking brake lever. Remove retainer, wave washer and parking brake lever.
