DTC P0720: Countershaft Speed Sensor

  1. Unplug 16-pin connector "D" from PCM. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Use DVOM to check resistance between connector terminals D10 (Blue wire) and D16 (Green wire). See Figure . If resistance is 400-600 ohms, go to step  4 . If resistance is not 400-600 ohms, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect 2-pin connector from countershaft speed sensor. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Use DVOM to measure resistance between sensor terminals. If resistance is 400-600 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 400-600 ohms, replace countershaft speed sensor.
  3. Measure continuity between PCM connector terminal D10 and countershaft speed sensor connector terminal No. 1 (Blue wire). Also measure continuity between PCM connector terminal D16 and countershaft speed sensor connector terminal No. 2 (Green wire). See Figure . If continuity is indicated on both wires, go to next step. If continuity is not indicated on both wires, repair open wire.
  4. Inspect PCM terminals and connectors for loose fit or damage. If no problems are found, replace PCM.
