DTC P0715: Mainshaft Speed Sensor

NOTE: Code P0715 may be caused by a mechanical problem in transmission (slipping). Inspect transmission operation before proceeding with this test.
  1. Disconnect 2-pin connector from mainshaft speed sensor. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Measure resistance between sensor terminals. If resistance is 400-600 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 400-600 ohms, replace mainshaft speed sensor.
  2. Unplug 16-pin connector "D" from PCM. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Use DVOM to check resistance between connector terminal D11 (Red wire) and terminal D12 (White wire). See Fig 1 . If resistance is 400-600 ohms, go to step  4 . If resistance is not 400-600 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Measure continuity between PCM connector terminal D11 and mainshaft speed sensor connector terminal No. 1 (Red wire). Also measure continuity between PCM connector terminal D12 and mainshaft speed sensor connector terminal No. 2 (White wire). See Fig 1 . If continuity is indicated on both wires, go to next step. If continuity is not indicated on both wires, repair open wire.
  4. Inspect PCM terminals and connectors. Repair if necessary. If it is certain that there are no mechanical problems with transmission, and no other problems are found, replace PCM.
