Low Fuel Indicator

  1. Check for blown fuse No. 1 (10-amp) in underdash fuse/relay block. Park vehicle on level ground. Drain fuel into an approved container. Reinstall drain bolt, using a new washer. Add 3.2 gallons (12.1 liters) of fuel to tank. Turn ignition on. Low fuel indicator light should come on within 4 minutes. If indicator light comes on, go to step  4 . If indicator light does not come on, go to next step.
  2. Remove fuel tank access panel in luggage compartment. Disconnect 3-pin harness connector from fuel gauge sending unit. Connect a jumper wire between fuel pump harness connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and terminal No. 2 (Yellow/Blue wire). See Figure . If indicator light comes on, go to next step. If indicator light does not come on, check for open in Yellow/Blue wire between fuel gauge sending unit and fuel gauge. Check for blown bulb. Check for no power to fuel gauge. Check for poor ground connections (G401, G402 and G404). Repair as necessary.
  3. Reconnect fuel gauge sending unit 3-pin harness connector. Disconnect gauge assembly 22-pin harness connector "C". Check resistance between ground and harness connector terminal C17 (Yellow/Blue wire). Resistance should be 77.4-81.4 ohms. If resistance is not as specified, replace fuel gauge sending unit. If resistance is as specified, check for bent, loose or corroded terminals, or faulty CPU.
  4. Add another gallon of fuel to tank. Indicator light should turn off within 4 minutes. If indicator light turns off, system is operating properly. If indicator light does not turn off, perform FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT TEST  .
