Test B: 4WD Mode Is Not Active With 4WD Switch On
- Check for DTC 26 or 31. If DTC 26 or 31 is present, go to appropriate trouble code test. If DTC 26 or 31 are not present, go to next step.
- Check for DTC 28, 32 or 33. If DTC 28, 32 or 33 is present, go to appropriate trouble code test. If DTC 28, 32 or 33 are not present, go to next step.
- Start engine. Observe TOD indicator while moving transfer lever through all positions. If TOD indicator matches transfer lever position, go to next step. If indicator does not match lever position, see FAULT DIAGNOSIS FROM TOD INDICATOR .
- Start engine. Shift transfer lever to 4L position. Fully turn steering wheel left or right. Put vehicle in "D" and make a tight corner braking maneuver. If tight corner braking occurs, go to next step. If tight corner braking does not occur, problem is in transfer assembly. Repair as needed. Go to step 7 .
- Disconnect ECU 30-pin connector. Shift transfer lever to high position. Start engine. Engage wide open throttle and measure voltage between ECU connector pins No. 4 and 20. See Figure . If voltage is at least .1 volt, go to next step. If voltage is not .1 volt, replace ECU. Go to step 7 .
- With throttle closed, measure voltage between ECU connector pins No. 4 and 20. See Figure . If voltage is at least 3 volts, TOD clutch is worn. Replace clutch and go to next step. If voltage is not 3 volts, replace ECU. Go to next step.
- Ensure all mechanical and electrical components are mounted correctly. If all components are mounted correctly, test is complete. Recheck system operation. If any components are not mounted correctly, repair or replace as needed. Repeat drive test and see if symptom is repeated.
