Road Test Of Failed Vehicle

If no DTCs are present and TOD indicator is operating normally, driver may still experience system abnormalities. Road test is used to diagnose these problems.

1. Start engine. Ensure TOD indicator comes on for 2 seconds as a bulb check and then goes out. CHECK light should be out and TOD indicator should display specified drive mode. If TOD indicator is flashing, check for trouble codes.
2. With vehicle stopped, engage 4WD switch and shift transfer lever as follows: 2H mode, to TOD mode, to 4L mode, to TOD mode, to 2H mode. Ensure TOD indicator displays correct status when lever is shifted. If transition status is displayed during shifting, run vehicle to complete shifting.
3. Slowly start vehicle in TOD mode and then accelerate to 25 MPH and maintain speed for 2 minutes. Bring vehicle to a complete stop. Repeat 3 times.
4. Turn steering wheel to full left or right position in TOD mode and drive in a complete circle 5 times. Repeat procedure in 2H mode.
5. Slowly start vehicle in TOD mode and then accelerate to 25 MPH. Carefully change modes from TOD, to 2H, to TOD, while ensuring shift is complete in each mode change. Bring vehicle to a complete stop.
6. Slowly start vehicle in TOD mode and then accelerate to 25 MPH. Apply brakes so an ABS stop is generated. Bring vehicle to a complete stop.
7. Slowly start vehicle in 4L mode and then accelerate to at least 13 MPH. Bring vehicle to a complete stop.
8. If CHECK light begins flashing during test run, check for DTC and service as needed. If TOD indicator displays incorrectly, perform appropriate procedure. See FAULT DIAGNOSIS FROM TOD INDICATOR  .
9. As long as engine is not turned off, TOD indicator will continue flashing after repair is made. Turn engine off and then turn ignition on. TOD indicator should not show any faulty status.
