Indicator Lights Are Flashing, Tod & 4L Modes Are Disabled

  1. Start engine. Backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 10 and 19 with transfer lever in neutral position. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, go to step  7 .
  2. Backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 10 and 19 with transfer lever in high position and 4WD switch in 4WD position. If no voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is present, go to step  7 .
  3. Backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 10 and 19 with transfer lever in 4L position. If no voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is present, go to step  7 .
  4. Shift transfer lever to 4L position. Backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 19 and 25. If no voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is present, replace ECU. Go to step  19 .
  5. With transfer lever in 4L position, backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 19 and 26. If no voltage is present, go to next step. If no voltage is present, replace ECU. Go to step  19 .
  6. With transfer lever in 4L position, backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 19 and 27. If no voltage is present, problem is intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS  . Go to step  19 . If voltage is present, replace ECU. Go to step  19 .
  7. Backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 5 and 19 with transfer lever in 2H position. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, go to step  11 .
  8. Backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 5 and 19 with transfer lever in neutral position. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, go to step  11 .
  9. Backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 5 and 19 with transfer lever in high position. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, go to step  11 .
  10. Backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 5 and 19 with transfer lever in 4L position. If no voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is present, go to step  12 .
  11. Check for DTC. If DTC 28, 32 and 33 are present, go to appropriate DTC test. If DTC 28, 32 and 33 are not present, replace ECU. Go to step  19 .
  12. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECU connector. Measure resistance between ECU connector terminals No. 5 and 19. If resistance is 17-25 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 17-25 ohms, repair circuit and/or replace front axle VSV. Go to step  19 .
  13. Turn ignition on. Place 4WD switch in 2WD position. Check if battery voltage is supplied to each front axle VSV. If battery voltage is supplied, go to next step. If battery voltage is not supplied, repair circuit and/or replace front axle VSV. Go to step  19 .
  14. Place transfer lever in neutral position. Check if battery voltage is supplied to each front axle VSV. If battery voltage is supplied, go to next step. If battery voltage is not supplied, repair circuit and/or replace front axle VSV. Go to step  19 .
  15. Place transfer lever in high position and 4WD switch in 4WD position. Check voltage at each front axle VSV. If no voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is present, repair circuit and/or replace front axle VSV. Go to step  19 .
  16. Place transfer lever in 4L position. Check voltage at each front axle VSV. If no voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is present, repair circuit and/or replace front axle VSV. Go to step  19 .
  17. Check if vacuum pressure is supplied to each front axle VSV. If vacuum is present, go to next step. If vacuum is not present, repair vacuum system. Go to step  19 .
  18. Check continuity of single AXLE switch with switch on and off. If continuity exists in one position and not the other, problem is in shift-on-the fly system. Repair front drive axle. Go to next step. If continuity is not as specified, replace single axle switch. Go to next step.
  19. Ensure all mechanical and electrical components are mounted correctly. If all components are mounted correctly, test is complete. Recheck system operation. If any components are not mounted correctly, repair or replace as needed. Repeat drive test and see if symptom is repeated.
