Indicator Light Status Does Not Change When Transfer Lever Is Shifted From 4L
- Turn ignition on. Backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 8 and 19 with transfer lever in high position. If 5 volts is present, go to next step. If 5 volts is not present, go to step 14 .
- Backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 8 and 19 with transfer lever in neutral position. If no voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is present, go to step 14 .
- Backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 8 and 19 with transfer lever in 4L position. If 5 volts is present, go to next step. If 5 volts is not present, go to step 14 .
- Turn ignition off. Backprobe ECU connector and check for continuity between terminals No. 1 and 25. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, replace TOD indicator bulb. Go to step 23 .
- Backprobe ECU connector and check for continuity between terminals No. 1 and 26. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, replace TOD indicator bulb. Go to step 23 .
- Backprobe ECU connector and check for continuity between terminals No. 1 and 27. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, replace TOD indicator bulb. Go to step 23 .
- Backprobe ECU connector and check for continuity between terminals No. 1 and 28. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, replace TOD indicator bulb. Go to step 23 .
- Backprobe ECU connector and check for continuity between terminals No. 1 and 29. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, replace TOD indicator bulb. Go to step 23 .
- Turn ignition on. Place transfer lever in 4L position. Backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 20 and 25. If no voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is present, replace ECU. Go to step 23 .
- With transfer lever in 4L position, backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 20 and 26. If no voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is present, replace ECU. Go to step 23 .
- With transfer lever in 4L position, backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 20 and 27. If no voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is present, replace ECU. Go to step 23 .
- With transfer lever in 4L position, backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 20 and 28. If no voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is present, replace ECU. Go to step 23 .
- With transfer lever in 4L position, backprobe ECU connector and measure voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 20 and 29. If no voltage is present, problem is intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS . Go to step 23 . If voltage is present, replace ECU. Go to step 23 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECU connector. Check for continuity between ECU connector terminals No. 8 and 19 with transfer lever in neutral position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, go to step 17 .
- Check for continuity between ECU connector terminals No. 8 and 19 with transfer lever in high position. If no continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity exists, go to step 17 .
- Check for continuity between ECU connector terminals No. 8 and 19 with transfer lever in 4L position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity exists, replace ECU. Go to step 23 .
- Disconnect 9-pin H17 connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Check for continuity between H17 connector terminal No. 3 and 18-pin B49 connector terminal No. 3, with transfer lever in neutral position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, go to step 20 .
- Check for continuity between H17 connector terminal No. 3 and 18-pin B49 connector terminal No. 3, with transfer lever in high position. If no continuity exists, go to step 19) . If continuity exists, go to step 20 .
- Check for continuity between H17 connector terminal No. 3 and 18-pin B49 connector terminal No. 3, with transfer lever in 4L position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, repair short to ground in Green/Red wire. Go to step 23 .
- Disconnect 12-pin M27 connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Check for continuity between M27 connector terminal No. 4 and 18-pin B49 connector terminal No. 3, with transfer lever in neutral position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, repair open in Green/Red wire. Go to step 23 .
- Check for continuity between M27 connector terminal No. 4 and 18-pin B49 connector terminal No. 3, with transfer lever in high position. If no continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair open in Green/Red wire. Go to step 23 .
- Check for continuity between M27 connector terminal No. 4 and 18-pin B49 connector terminal No. 3, with transfer lever in 4L position. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in 4H switch or M27 harness connector. Go to next step. If no continuity exists, repair short in Green/Red wire. Go to next step.
- Ensure all mechanical and electrical components are mounted correctly. If all components are mounted correctly, test is complete. Recheck system operation. If any components are not mounted correctly, repair or replace as needed. Repeat drive test and see if symptom is repeated.
