DTC 31: Electromagnetic Coil Is Faulty
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECU connector. Using ohmmeter, check for continuity between ECU connector terminals No. 4 and 20. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, go to step 4 .
- Reconnect ECU connector. Start engine. Place vehicle in TOD mode. Backprobe for voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 4 and 20. If voltage is at least .4 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than .4 volts, replace ECU. Go to step 5 .
- Backprobe for voltage between ECU connector terminals No. 4 and 20. If battery voltage is present, repair short in Brown and/or Light Blue wires. Go to step 5 . If battery voltage is not present, problem is intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS . Go to step 5 .
- Disconnect 12-pin in-line M27 connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Check for continuity between M27 connector terminals No. 7 and 8. If continuity is present, repair Brown and/or Light Blue wires. Go to next step. If continuity is not present, replace electromagnetic coil. Go to next step.
- Ensure all mechanical and electrical components are mounted correctly. Clear DTC. If all components are mounted correctly, test is complete. Recheck system operation. If any components are not mounted correctly, repair or replace as needed. Repeat drive test and see if symptom is repeated.
