Steering Wheel: Removal
CAUTION:
Never apply force to steering wheel in direction of shaft by using hammer or impact tools. steering shaft is designed as an energy absorbing unit.
- Before proceeding, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS . Disable driver-side air bag. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove driver-side air bag assembly. See AIR BAG ASSEMBLIES .
- Disconnect horn lead connector. Remove steering wheel mounting nut. Apply a setting mark across steering wheel and shaft so parts can be reassembled in original position. See Fig 1 . Turn wheels to straight ahead position before removing steering wheel. Remove wheel using steering wheel puller. Feed wiring through wheel and remove wheel.
