Steering Wheel: Removal

CAUTION: Never apply force to steering wheel in direction of shaft by using hammer or impact tools. steering shaft is designed as an energy absorbing unit.
  1. Before proceeding, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS  . Disable driver-side air bag. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  . Remove driver-side air bag assembly. See AIR BAG ASSEMBLIES  .
  2. Disconnect horn lead connector. Remove steering wheel mounting nut. Apply a setting mark across steering wheel and shaft so parts can be reassembled in original position. See Fig 1 . Turn wheels to straight ahead position before removing steering wheel. Remove wheel using steering wheel puller. Feed wiring through wheel and remove wheel.
