Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Removal

1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove radiator upper fan shroud. Remove all accessory drive belts. Using Puller (J-8614-01), remove crankshaft pulley bolt and pulley. Remove cooling fan assembly. Remove upper intake manifold. See UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD .
2. Remove timing belt. See TIMING BELT . Remove cylinder head covers. See CYLINDER HEAD COVERS . Remove camshaft towers and camshaft. See Fig 1. Remove camshaft pulley bolt and pulley. On SOHC, remove front plate bolts and front plate. On all engines, mark valve train components for reassembly reference. On DOHC, remove camshaft drive gear retainer.
