Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge Goes To "H" Or Beyond

  1. Disconnect ECT connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect a fused jumper wire between ECT connector and ground. If coolant temperature gauge varies, replace ECT unit. If gauge does not vary, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect instrument panel connector I-10. If coolant temperature gauge varies, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If gauge does not vary, go to next step.
  3. Repair short to ground in Yellow/Black wire between instrument panel connector I-10 terminal No. 9 (terminal No. 4 on "S" models) and ECT unit connector. Recheck system operation.
