Coolant Temperature Gauge Reading Is Too Low

  1. Disconnect ECT unit. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect a fused jumper wire between ECT connector and ground. If coolant temperature gauge varies, replace ECT unit. If gauge does not vary, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect instrument panel connector I-10. Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and instrument panel connector I-10 cavity terminal No. 9 (terminal No. 4 on "S" models). See Figure . If coolant temperature gauge varies, go to next step. If gauge does not vary, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Repair open in Yellow/Black wire between instrument panel connector I-10 terminal No. 9 (terminal No. 4 on "S" models) and ECT unit connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Recheck system operation.
