Cleaning & Inspection (With LSD)
- Inspect friction discs, steel plates and spacers for wear or damage. Repair small burs, nicks or scratches on spacers, side gears and differential case using oil stone.
- Using a dial indicator, check spacers, steel plates and friction discs for warpage. Warpage should not exceed .003" (.08 mm). Using a micrometer, measure thickness of thrust washer. Minimum thickness should be .05" (1.3 mm). Using a micrometer, measure difference between frictional surfaces and projected portions of friction discs and steel plates. If difference (wear) is greater than .004" (.1 mm), replace friction disc or steel plate with one of same thickness as projected portion.
- Measure clearance between pinion shaft and pinion gears. Measure clearance between side gears and differential cage. Mount axle shaft in soft-jawed vise. Install side gear onto axle shaft. Measure clearance between axle shafts and side gears. See DIFFERENTIAL CAGE CLEARANCE SPECIFICATIONS table.
