Removal & Installation (Amigo, Rodeo & Trooper)

1. Ensure steering wheel is centered. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disable air bag system. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Yellow connector from under steering column.
2. Remove knee bolster and steering column upper and lower covers. On Trooper, remove knee bolster and center console. Disconnect combination switch connectors. Mark steering shaft "U" joint position with steering gear shaft for installation. Loosen pinch bolt on end of steering shaft "U" joint in engine compartment. Remove steering column fixing bolt at base of column. Remove steering column bracket bolts at top of column. Remove steering column.
3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
