Removal (2WD)

  1. Remove battery. Place shift lever in Neutral. Remove front console and gearshift lever assembly. Raise vehicle and drain transmission oil. Mark drive shaft for installation reference. Remove drive shaft. Remove starter.
  2. Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold. Remove exhaust pipe bracket. Remove speedometer cable and clutch cable or release cylinder. Unplug transmission electrical connectors. Support engine and transmission. Remove rear transmission support from frame.
  3. Remove transmission mount-to-transmission bolts. Using a jack, support transmission. Remove transmission mount-to-crossmember bolts and transmission mount. Lower transmission jack to gain access to upper bolts. Remove quadrant (shift linkage) box.
  4. Remove transmission-to-engine bolts and transmission. Mark pressure plate and flywheel for installation reference. Support clutch assembly with clutch aligner. Remove pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts evenly in a diagonal pattern. Remove clutch assembly. See Fig 1 .
