Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Removal

  1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove fan shrouds and cooling fan assembly. Remove upper intake manifold. See UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Remove cylinder head covers. See CYLINDER HEAD COVERS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove timing belt. See TIMING BELT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Remove camshaft pulley bolt and pulley. Remove front plate bolts and front plate. On DOHC, remove camshaft timing chain sprockets and tensioners. On both engines, remove camshaft towers and camshaft. See Fig 1.
