Pinion Flange & Oil Seal: Installation

  1. Check pinion flange sealing surface for damage. Apply lubricant to sealing surfaces of NEW seal. Using seal driver, install seal. Apply sealant to pinion shaft splines.
  2. Install pinion flange so reference mark aligns with pinion shaft mark. Install washer and nut. Tighten nut until reference marks align and then an additional 1/16" (1.6 mm). Do not use impact wrench to tighten pinion nut. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
