Removal (Pickup 2WD)

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel and brake drum. Disconnect brake line and parking brake cable (if necessary). Remove bearing holder nuts and bolts. Pull out axle shaft and shims. Mount axle shaft in vise, with vise jaws around bearing lock nut. DO NOT overtighten vise.
    CAUTION: Heavy pressure from hydraulic press is not needed to remove bearing from axle shaft. Ensure backing plate is properly supported in press.
  2. Using bearing nut remover or pry bar, rotate axle shaft to remove lock nut. Press bearing retainer and bearing from axle shaft. Remove oil seal. Using brass drift, drive outer bearing race from bearing holder.
