Test A-5, Braking Sound From Hydraulic Unit (Brakes Released)

  1. When vehicle is first started, and vehicle speed is under 6 MPH, ABS system performs self-checking procedure. This procedure emits brake sounds from the hydraulic unit and is normal. If brake sounds are heard after first vehicle start-up, note specific time of occurrence.
  2. Under the following conditions, ABS system may actuate even when brake pedal is not applied: at time of down shift or clutch operation, during rough road or snow conditions, during high speed turn, when other electrical switches are operated or when engine is operated at over 5000 RPM.
  3. Inspect wheel speed sensors. If speed sensors are loose, damaged or powdered iron is sticking to speed sensor or sensor ring, repair or replace speed sensors as necessary.
  4. Check for normal speed sensor output. Refer to TEST C-2, SENSOR OUTPUT INSPECTION. Replace sensor or repair wiring as necessary. Inspect for disconnected wiring or connections. Repair as necessary. If wiring or connections are okay, replace EBCM.
