Manual Transmission

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect Pinout Box (J-35592). Using a DVOM, check continuity between pinout box terminals No. 10 and 16, with transmission in Neutral. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, check for shorted transmission switch or wiring and repair as necessary.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between pinout box terminals No. 16 and 20. With transmission in "1", "2" or "R" position, 11.5-14.5 volts should be present. With transmission in any other gear positions, 2-4 volts should be present.
  3. If voltage is not as specified, check for disconnected wiring, connections or transmission switch malfunction. Repair as necessary. If voltage is as specified, check for wiring or connections shorted to power source or ground. Check for shorted transmission switch. Repair as necessary. Perform system self-check. If no faults are found, replace EBCM.
