Test B-6, BRAKELIGHT Switch (DTC 22)

  1. Ensure brakelights operate when brake pedal is applied. If brakelights operate, go to next step. If brakelights do not operate, inspect fuse C-14 (15-amp), located in fuse box under left side of instrument panel. Inspect brakelight switch for proper installation. Ensure continuity exists at brakelight switch terminals when brake pedal is applied. Ensure continuity does not exist when brake pedal is released. Replace brakelight switch or repair wiring as necessary.
  2. Connect Pinout Box (J-35592). Using a DVOM, measure voltage between pinout box terminals No. 10 and 25 while applying brake pedal. If low voltage exists, repair wiring between brakelight switch and EBCM. If battery voltage exists, ensure terminals No. 10, 20 and 34 are grounded properly. Repair as necessary. If ground is okay, check for disconnected wiring or connections. Repair as necessary. Perform system self-check. If no faults are found, replace EBCM.
