Fuel Gauge Inoperative (All Models)

  1. Check fuse links and GAUGE fuse. Disconnect fuel gauge harness connector at tank sending unit. Connect a 3.4-watt test light between Black/Blue of fuel gauge harness connector.
  2. If fuel gauge needle moves to middle part of gauge, replace fuel tank sending unit. If needle does not move, connect test light between Yellow/Red wire of fuel gauge harness connector and chassis ground. If fuel gauge needle does not move, go to next step. If fuel gauge needle moves to middle of gauge, sending unit ground fault exists. Check ground circuit and chassis ground point.
  3. Remove fuel gauge from instrument cluster. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of fuel gauge. See FUEL GAUGE TEST. If gauge tests okay, check wiring for open circuit or poor contact.
