Valve Clearance Adjustment: SOHC

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove PCV hoses from valve cover. Remove spark plug wire bracket from valve cover. Remove upper timing belt cover. Remove valve cover bolts, valve cover and gasket.
  2. Position No. 1 piston on TDC of compression stroke. Measure clearance between rocker arm and valve stem on specified valves. See VALVE ADJUSTMENT SEQUENCE  table. Adjust clearance if not within specification. See VALVE CLEARANCE SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  3. To adjust remaining valves, rotate crankshaft 360 degrees (one full turn) until No. 4 piston is at TDC of compression stroke. Measure valve clearance on specified valves. See VALVE ADJUSTMENT SEQUENCE  table. Adjust clearance as necessary. Replace valve cover gasket (if necessary). Tighten valve cover bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table.
