Power Brake Unit

  1. Run engine for 1-2 minutes. Turn ignition off. Depress brake pedal several times with normal pressure. If pedal depresses fully first time but gradually depresses less during successive pedal applications, go to next step. If pedal height remains unchanged during successive pedal applications, power brake unit is defective.
  2. With engine off, depress pedal several times using equal pedal pressure to ensure pedal height does not change. Depress and hold brake pedal and start engine. If pedal moves down slightly, go to next step. If pedal height does not change, power brake unit is defective.
  3. With engine running, depress brake pedal and turn ignition off. Hold pedal depressed for 30 seconds. If pedal height does not change, power brake unit is okay. If pedal rises, check for defective power brake unit, check valve or vacuum hose.
