Removal (1.6L SOHC)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect 2 harness connectors (9-pin and 12-pin) near left strut tower. Disconnect Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor connector. Disconnect Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) connector.
  2. Disconnect throttle valve cable from upper intake manifold. Disconnect Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) connector. Disconnect PCV hose, air intake duct and breather hose.
  3. Disconnect EGR Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) hose and canister hose from throttle valve assembly. Loosen EGR valve bolts and EGR pipe at exhaust manifold. Loosen EGR pipe bracket bolt.
  4. Disconnect bracket from upper intake manifold. Remove throttle valve assembly from upper intake manifold. Disconnect coolant by-pass hose. Disconnect MAP sensor vacuum hose. Disconnect brake booster vacuum hose.
  5. Disconnect upper intake manifold bracket and engine hoist bracket. Remove upper intake manifold from vehicle.
