Removal (SOHC)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Support engine. Remove right side engine mount. Remove alternator and power steering pump drive belts. Ensure engine is supported. Remove engine mounting bracket located at timing belt cover.
  2. Remove crankshaft pulley bolts. Remove crankshaft pulley from crankshaft pulley hub. Remove timing belt cover. Rotate crankshaft and position No. 4 cylinder at TDC of compression stroke. Ensure timing mark on camshaft pulley aligns with cylinder head. See Fig 1 .
  3. Ensure timing mark (notch) on crankshaft sprocket aligns with timing mark on oil pump. See Fig 1 . Loosen tensioner pulley bolt. Rotate tensioner pulley to loosen timing belt tension.
  4. Mark timing belt's direction of rotation if reusing belt. Remove timing belt. Remove crankshaft and camshaft sprockets (if necessary).
