Installation (SOHC)

  1. Rotate camshaft so timing mark aligns with cylinder head surface. Ensure dowel pin on camshaft pulley is in the up position. See Figure .
  2. Ensure timing mark (notch) on crankshaft sprocket aligns with timing mark on oil pump. See Figure . Install timing belt in the following order: over crankshaft sprocket, camshaft pulley, water pump and belt tensioner.
    CAUTION: To ensure correct belt rotation, install new timing belt so the word ISUZU on belt can be read when viewing from passenger's side. Install used timing belt in original direction of rotation.
  3. Insert a hex wrench into belt tensioner. Rotate tensioner pulley counterclockwise to tension belt. Hold tensioner pulley, and tighten pulley bolt.
  4. Rotate crankshaft back to approximately 50 degrees BTDC and back to TDC for No. 4 cylinder. Ensure all timing marks align. Measure timing belt deflection. See Fig 1 . Ensure timing belt defection is within specification. If belt deflection is not within specification, repeat steps 3) and 4).
    CAUTION: Ensure timing marks align after belt adjustment.
  5. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
