Installation (DOHC)

Rotate camshafts so timing marks align with cylinder head surface. Install 6-mm bolts in lock bolt holes to secure camshafts. See Figure .
Ensure timing mark (notch) on crankshaft sprocket aligns with timing mark on oil pump. See Figure . Install timing belt in the following order: over crankshaft sprocket, water pump, idler pulley, exhaust camshaft, intake camshaft and belt tensioner. Ensure no slack exists in belt.
CAUTION: To ensure correct belt rotation, install new timing belt so the word ISUZU on belt can be read when viewed from passenger's side. Install used timing belt in original direction of rotation.
Loosen bolt and allow tensioner pulley to apply tension on timing belt. Hold tensioner pulley and tighten tensioner pulley bolt.
CAUTION: On new timing belts, push tensioner pulley slightly inward to apply more pressure on timing belt. On used timing belts, allow only spring tension to be applied to timing belt.
Rotate crankshaft 2 revolutions in direction of engine rotation. Ensure all timing marks align. Rotate crankshaft 60 degrees. Measure timing belt deflection at midpoint between camshaft sprockets. Ensure timing belt defection is within specification. See TIMING BELT DEFLECTION SPECIFICATIONS table. If belt deflection is not within specification, repeat steps 3) and 4).
CAUTION: Ensure timing marks align after belt adjustment.
To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
