Installation (SOHC)

  1. Lubricate camshaft journals with engine oil. Apply sealant at bearing cap-to-cylinder head surface for the No. 1 and No. 5 camshaft bearing caps. See Fig 1 .
  2. Install rocker arm assemblies. Ensure rocker arm shaft identified with one circle is on intake side of cylinder head. Ensure rocker arm shaft identified with 2 circles is on exhaust side of cylinder head. See Fig 2 .

  3. Tighten bolts in sequence to specification. See Figure . See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Adjust valve clearance. See VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS.
  4. Replace valve cover gasket (if necessary). Before installing valve cover, apply sealant on No. 1 and No. 5 camshaft bearing rocker brackets. See Figure . Install valve cover.
