Installation (DOHC)

  1. Lubricate camshaft with engine oil. Install camshaft in cylinder head. Ensure locating dowel for camshaft sprocket is at the 12 o'clock position. Apply Sealant (TB-1207B) to contact surfaces between camshaft bearing caps and cylinder head for No. 1 and No. 5 bearing caps. See Fig 1 .
  2. Install camshaft bearing caps in original location. Tighten bolts in sequence to specification. See Figure . See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Lubricate seal lip with engine oil. Using Seal Installer (J-37989), install new seal on camshafts.
  4. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Ensure reference marks align when installing distributor, and timing marks align when installing timing belt.
    CAUTION: If cylinder head or camshaft are serviced or replaced, valve clearance must be checked. See VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS.
  5. Before installing valve cover, apply Sealant (TB-1207B) at valve cover-to-camshaft bearing cap surfaces for No. 1 and No. 5 bearing caps. To install valve cover, reverse removal procedure.
  6. Tighten valve cover bolts to specification in proper sequence. See Figure . See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Adjust all fluid levels.
