Valve Seat

  1. Replace valve seat if damaged. To replace valve seat, arc weld a welding rod to valve seat in several areas to shrink valve seat. Allow valve seat to cool.
  2. Gently tap on welding rod to remove valve seat. Ensure valve seat area in cylinder head is clean. Heat valve seat area of cylinder head with steam.
  3. Cool valve seat with dry ice. Install valve seat in cylinder head. Valve seat-to-cylinder head interference fit should be .0032-.0059" (.081-.150 mm). Grind valve seat to correct seat width. See CYLINDER HEAD  table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
  4. Measure valve seat margin. Install a NEW valve in cylinder head. Measure margin from combustion chamber surface. See Fig 1 or Fig 2 . Replace valve seats or cylinder head if not within specification. See CYLINDER HEAD  table.
