Piston Pins

  1. Measure piston pin outside diameter in 2 directions and 3 places. See Fig 1 . If outside diameter is not within specification at any one of the places, replace piston pin. See PISTONS, PINS & RINGS  table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
  2. On 1.6L DOHC non-turbo and SOHC engines, ensure piston pin to connecting rod interference fit is within specification. Measure inside diameter of connecting rod small end. If interference fit is not within specification, replace connecting rod and piston pin. See PISTONS, PINS & RINGS  table.
  3. On 1.6L DOHC turbo and 1.8L DOHC engines, ensure piston pin to connecting rod clearance is within specification. Measure inside diameter of connecting rod small end. If clearance is not within specification, replace connecting rod bushing and refit to proper size. See PISTONS, PINS & RINGS table.
