Timing Chain (3.1L): Installation

  1. Using Sprocket Installer (J-5590), install crankshaft sprocket on crankshaft so timing marks face outward. Lubricate camshaft sprocket thrust surface with Molykote.
  2. Install camshaft sprocket and timing chain. Install camshaft sprocket so timing marks align and sprocket engages with pin in camshaft.
  3. Install and tighten camshaft sprocket bolts to pull camshaft sprocket on camshaft. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Ensure all timing marks align.
  4. Lubricate timing chain with engine oil. Apply sealant to front cover gasket. Install gasket and front cover. Lubricate vibration damper-to-seal contact surface with engine oil.
  5. Using Vibration Damper Installer (J-29113), install vibration damper. Install vibration damper bolt, and tighten it to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Fill cooling system.
