Cylinder Head (3.1L): Removal

  1. Remove intake manifold. See INTAKE MANIFOLD  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold. Lower vehicle.
  2. On left cylinder head, remove ground strap at rear of cylinder head. Disconnect water temperature sensor connector from front of cylinder head. Remove accessory drive belt. Remove A/C compressor with bracket and hoses attached. Remove power steering pump with bracket and hoses attached.
  3. On right cylinder head, disconnect ignition coil connectors. Remove cruise control vacuum hose (if equipped). Remove ignition coil bracket. Remove spark plug wires. Remove alternator with bracket attached.
  4. Remove valve covers. Remove rocker arms and push rods. See ROCKER ARM & PUSH ROD  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove cylinder head bolts. Remove cylinder head and gasket.
