Removal & Installation
- Disconnect battery and remove battery from vehicle. Scribe hinge positions on hood and remove hood. Remove lower engine cover. Drain crankcase oil and cooling system. Remove all accessible engine air ducts. Label and disconnect all necessary electrical connectors, vacuum lines and control cables. See Figure. Remove lower and upper radiator hoses. Remove fan mounting bolts and fan pulley.
- From the left side of the engine disconnect or remove the following: air pump, vacuum hose from brake booster, oxygen sensor electrical connector, airflow meter electrical connector, alternator electrical connectors, exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold, hose at air switching valve, heater hoses at firewall, power steering hose from oil reservoir and engine mount retaining nuts.
- From the right side of the engine disconnect or remove the following: carbon canister lines, throttle cable, TV cable (A/T models), computer harness connector, coolant temperature switch, oil pressure switch, starter motor connections, fuel lines from pressure regulator and fuel rail, transmission electrical connector.
- Discharge A/C system. Disconnect or remove the following: A/C compressor hoses (if equipped), overflow tank and line, fan, radiator hoses and radiator. From inside vehicle, remove gearshift lever assembly.
- From underneath the engine, disconnect or remove the following: parking brake return spring, parking brake cable, drive shaft, clutch slave cylinder, engine stiffener brace, front exhaust pipe bracket from transmission, mounting clamp for exhaust pipe, both speedometer cables, plug transmission opening and remove crossmember. Support transmission and remove mounting bolts.
- Slightly raise front of engine before removing rear engine mount bolts. Remove transmission from engine. Remove engine assembly. To install, reverse removal procedure.
