Cylinder Head: Removal

  1. Label and remove all necessary air ducts, vacuum lines, fuel lines, electrical connectors and control cables. See Figure, Figure, or Figure . Remove spark plug wires and distributor. Remove valve cover, gasket and timing belt cover. Remove camshaft gear retaining bolt. Remove gear and set timing belt off to the side.
  2. Remove exhaust manifold. Starting with outer bolts and working inward, loosen cylinder head bolts using Head Bolt Wrench (J-24239-01). Remove cylinder head mounting bolts. With intake manifold connected, remove cylinder head and gasket.
