Connecting Rod Bearings Service

Ensure connecting rod and cap are marked on starter side of engine for cylinder identification. Remove rod cap. Check bearing clearance using Plastigage method. Standard connecting rod clearance is .0008-.002" (.022-.052"). If clearance exceeds .0047" (.12 mm), install new bearings. Replacement bearings are available in standard, .010" (.25 mm) and .020" (.50 mm) undersizes.
