Power Brake Unit: Diassembly

  1. With unit removed from vehicle, remove piston rod, push rod clevis and nut. Use screwdriver to pry out retainer. Scribe match marks between front and rear housing for reassembly.
  2. Using Fixture and Handle (J 23456) and Adapter (J 23455 51), compress housing. Rotate front housing and carefully release compression to separate housing halves.
  3. Remove piston return spring. Remove following parts in order: boot, air cleaner elements, air cleaner separator and power brake piston.
  4. Remove diaphragm from power brake piston. Gently push air valve assembly into power brake piston and remove stopper key. Remove air valve assembly. Air valve assembly is serviced as a unit and cannot be disassembled.
  5. Using fingers only, pick reaction disc out of power brake piston. Using Fixture (J 24435 4) and Mandrill (J 34874), lightly hammer oil seal out of rear housing.
