Cylinder Head: Installation

Clean gasket surfaces. Clean head bolts and threads in cylinder block. Install new head gasket with side marked "TOP" up. Install cylinder head and tighten head bolts. See Figure . Reverse removal procedure to complete installation.



  1. Clean gasket surfaces. Clean head bolts and threads in cylinder block. Install new head gasket with side marked "TOP" up. Apply a thin coat of engine oil to threaded part of bolts. Install cylinder head and bolts, but DO NOT  tighten.
  2. Apply a thin coat of oil to front cover bolts and install. Tighten cylinder head bolts and front cover bolts, in sequence. See Fig 1 . Reverse removal procedure to complete installation.

NOTE: Tighten to 61 ft. lbs. (83 N.m), then to 72 ft. lbs. (98 N.m).
